Hot Words in Japan
 
Current Japanese urban words and phrases the overseas marketer is likely to encounter in print or traveling around Tokyo.
Words in the JMR Hot Words section are gleaned directly from words used by consumers interviewed by JMR in focus groups, on surveys and individual one-on-one meetings.  In addition we scan the Japanese media - TV and print -- for additional gems.

1.   Pop culture hot words
1,1  Shibu-hara /  シブハラ / pronounced, in Japanese and English as written. 
A combination "Shibuya" and "Harajuku", two areas in Tokyo popular with the teen and 20's group.   Current usage refers in particular to the young girls in their 20's who frequent the area and by extension to Japan's first reality TV format program featuring 4 ladies that might be imagined to frequent the Shibuya and Harajuku casual fashion shops.


2.  Marketing hot words
2.1  kosupa /  コスタ / [koo-supaa]  /
From "cost performance"  ->  cos-per -> ko-paa
Frequently shorten to simply  "kosu"   (cost) when combined with other words, for instance,  "kosu-sedai"  meaning "cost performance conscious  generation"  as in the "The current 20s generation is a "kosu sedai" group.
