Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare released statistics of average overtime working hour and monthly salary for September on November 16. In September 2010, average monthly salary paid in cash was Yen 267,975 (about $3,200.) Two peaks in the graph are prominent in December and June/July; there peaks are due to bonuses paid in winter and summer.
The red chart line shows that the average worker put in 7.6 percent more overtime hours in Sept. than in the same period last year. However, monthly salaries increased by only 0.9 percent in the 7 months from Jan.to Sept.
