Chain Restaurant Ranking

Japanese Chain Restaurant Ranking

Depressed income and consumption includes a reluctance to dining out.   In Japan while mid- and up-scale casual restaurant chains are posting poor sales, a few at the low end are prospering. This includes  the chains of Gyoza No Osho (Chinese dumplings)  and Saizeriya (Italian food re-styled a la Japon)

JMR recently surveyed the top 27 restaurant chains in Japan to update its rankings. At the top for "brand awareness" are “Yoshinoya” (beef bowls),  Gyoza No Osho and Gasuto (Japanese rendering of "gusto").  In the the "most frequently visited" ranks were Gasuto, Yoshinoya and Saizeriya -- all with low-price menus.

The dining out restaurant scene, at least at the bargain end of the market, is full of ups and downs, with value for money the big issue for most consumers nowadays. The Gasuto chain successfully held its lead thanks to its low prices.  Whether it can continue to hold diners attention in the future is unclear.
