Monthly Economic Indicators - Japanese Consumers' Viewpoint (Oct. 2010)

Latest data available (as of end Dec 2010) for the some of the components making up the Japanese CPI equivalent

For October 2010, the chart shows gains in consumer spending, new housing starts, overtime worked, fast food shop spending, family restaurant spending, and personal saving; meanwhile there was weakness in new car unit sales, department store sales, most franchise sales operations. Monthly new car unit sales dropped dramatically. On the job hunt front, the job opening situation worsened.

For September 2010, the chart shows gains in consumer spending, new housing starts, overtime worked, fast food shop spending and personal saving; meanwhile there was weakness in new car unit sales, family restaurant spending, department sales, most franchise sales operations. The job opening situation worsened.

Figures in monthly columns are comparisons to the same period in the prior year.  - Example -  March,  row 2 "Consumer spending" show a 3.6% year-on-year increase compared to 2009;  for the same month, row 3 "New housing starts" shows
 a 2. 4% (100 - 97.6) YoY decline.  Declines are highlighted in orange.

For July, the most recent month for which full data are available, the chart shows gains in the average propensity to spend, consumer spending, new housing starts, overtime worked, new car unit sales, and fast food shop spending , while there was weakness in family restaurant spending, department sales, most franchise sales operations, jobs offered to seekers ratio, and personal savings.
