Sapporo Holdings

JMR has just issued an update to its Sapporo Holdings case.  Available here for subscribers to the Japanese site.

Sapporo Holdings is the parent of Sapporo Beer, the fourth largest beer maker in Japan.   For the most recent fiscal year 2009 ended last December, Sapporo recorded both lower sales and profits due to slack demand for alcoholic beverages within Japan.  It focused its management resources on its leading beer brands.   Sales and market share improvements were made by Sapporo only in its "Mugi & Hops" product line, a new type beer brewed with non-malt ingredients, generally soybeans.  Operating profits in European style wines and "shochu" (potato distillates) product groups increased but the total unit sales are small.  International drinks lines and its real estate holdings operations accounted  for 60% of total consolidated operating profits.  Details available in the JMR case.

Each JMR case in the "Strategy 100" series is a compact yet detailed snapshot of a major corporation.  Main sections include Company profile, Business Strategy analysis including present strategy, SWOT and future directions;  recent year sales by business segment, graph of 10-year financial performance, Historical Path Analysis over 10 years including business stages, analysis of key business events, and more
